Nepal

November 12-13, 2019

For me Kathmandu was the definition of chaos. Of the places we visited up to this point it was clearly the poorest. The traffic was unbelievable. Still within the chaos lay an interesting place with a long and rich history and I was eager to explore it.

We took more pictures here then you gentle reader likely wish to sort through. Thus again I refer you to the uncurated pages for a more complete list.

Nepal was one of our one night stays. Unlike most travel days we arrived about 11 AM and therefore had time for a tour on the arrival day. We then did a short tour in the morning before heading to the airport.

Bhaktapur

South of the city lay the area of Bhaktapur. The walked up hill to the central square. Here much damage from the 2015 Earthquake was visible in the form of buildings propped up and piles of bricks waiting to be used in restoration. But life goes on. The area is a commercial area although it looked like many of the shops were geared toward tourists. The area contains many temples. It was an interesting place to explore.

Boudhanath

The next morning we departed the hotel, but had two stops before the airport. The first was Boudhanath. This is a stupa or tomb. This particular one is the largest and is surrounded by a square and temples.

Pashupatinath Temple

Pashupatinath Temple is a world heritage site that is used to cremate the dead of the Kathmandu area. We only visited on the far bank so we viewed the site across the river.

Pashupatinath was only a short ride from the airport. Here the group split again with ourselves going to Tibet and others to a park at lower altitude.

Departure

Following morning tours we headed to the airport again. Our plane had departed to overnight in India. We instead boarded a Chinese Charter for the about 2 hr flight to Lhasa.
