Welcome to the page listing the countries we have visited. Travel has been a passion for both of us. Many of the countries listed were enroute to eclipses. Others were simply the target of interesting trips. There are some rules for inclusion on this list
- We are required to leave the airport Thus Taiwan, South Korea, Cape Verde Islands, and Hong Kong (PRC) are not listed.
- Distant provinces are listed Thus Gibraltar, French Polynesia, and Pitcairn are included.
One other rule. The country is listed under the flag it was flying when we visited. Thus Carrie visited the USSR. I visited Russia. We visited British Hong Kong. Finally I visited Libya under Gaddafi.
Just so you don't have to count by the end of 2020 there will be 56 flags. I have left space for the countries not currently visited. These will be filled in after the trip.

Near Misses
For anyone who has done as much world traveling as we have I am sure you have stories of almost disasters. Here are ours
- 1999 Left Turkey about 18 hours before a Magnitude 7.6 Earthquake
- 2002 Was about 1 kilometer from a hotel in Mombasa, Kenya that was attacked by terrorists. Had they gone one kilometer further north they would have found about 250 American milling around in the hotel lobby. We heard the explosion, but did not know until we did a bug-out what had happened.
- 2006 Before my visit to Libya there was an uproar over the actions of some Bulgarian nurses. While the US was not directly involved we left Egypt bound for Libya without a clear indication that we were going to be allowed entrance. In the end capitalism won.
- 2013 We left Sierra Leone in November 2013. In May 2014 the first cases of Ebola were reported.
