We had eclipse trips planned for 2020 and 2021 that would include some of the major sites in South America including Iguaçu Falls[1], the Perito Moreno Glacier, and the Chilean Patagonia. Something came up. So when we saw the TCS trip advertised it was a great fit. We had been to a number of the destinations before. We spent a week in the Galapagos with National Geographic, we had done a multi day observing trip to the Atacama, and I used to travel to Costa Rica to see the Southern Milky Way. Despite the overlap this was a great opportunity to fill in what we had missed.
TCS had managed our 2019 Round the World Trip for National Geographic so we were already aware of the concept of Private Jet Travel and their ability to manage a worry free trip. Private Jet travel is incredibly efficient. Imagine what it would have taken using commercial travel for just the leg from Torres Del Paine, Chile to El Calafate, Argentina.
and it would have taken 17 hours. I believe in our 2020 trip this was going to be an all day bus ride.
By comparison, our trip involved boarding our plane in Puerto Natales and flying to El Calafate, which took approximately 30 minutes.
Most of the flights on this trip were relatively short (the longest being about 5 hours in our jet {plus 2 hours on LATAM}) and we were not flipping time zones every day so the luxury of the jet was less of a benefit than the round the world in 2019. Still, we were always greeted aboard our plane as "welcome home" and sitting in the same seat with the same attendant did make it feel like home.
This was all possible because of the plane
